Privacy Policy
Deleco Rider — a product of Orvvan
Effective date: May 1, 2023
Last updated: May 1, 2023
1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how Orvvan ("Orvvan," "we," "us," or "our"), the parent company of Deleco, collects, uses, discloses, and protects information when you use the Deleco Rider mobile application ("the Rider App," part of "the Services").
The Rider App is used by independent riders to register, get approved, and fulfil delivery and ride requests placed by customers and businesses through Deleco's other apps. By registering as a rider, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not register or use the Rider App.
This Policy is written to comply with Ghana's Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843) and reflects generally accepted international data protection principles. If you are located outside Ghana, additional local laws may also apply to you.
A separate policy governs the Deleco customer app and Deleco Business dashboard; you can find it at /privacy.html.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Account and identity information
- Phone number — required to register and used for one-time password (OTP) verification via SMS.
- Full name and, where provided, an email address.
- Government-issued identification — a valid Ghana Card, or other accepted national identification, submitted as part of registration.
- Driver's license, where applicable to the vehicle type you register.
- Selfie/verification photograph — used to confirm that the person registering matches the identity document submitted.
2.2 Vehicle information
- Vehicle type and the service categories you register for (e.g., Delivery, Cargo, Errand).
- Vehicle registration details and photographs of the vehicle.
2.3 Location information
- Precise location is collected while you are online and available for requests, and continuously during an active delivery or ride, so we can match you with nearby requests, calculate routes, and provide live tracking to the customer.
- We do not collect your location while you are offline (not marked as available).
- Where your device permissions allow background location, this is used only while you are online, to keep your position accurate for matching and live tracking even if the app is not in the foreground — for example, while navigating to a pickup point.
2.4 Payout and financial information
- Mobile Money or bank payout details, collected so we can process your weekly earnings payouts through our payment partner, Paystack. We do not store your full financial account credentials ourselves; see Section 4.
- Earnings, cash-collection, and dues records — including delivery fares earned, cash amounts collected from customers on cash orders, and any outstanding balance owed to Deleco, used to calculate and reconcile your payouts.
2.5 Communications
- In-app chat messages exchanged with a matched customer for the duration of an active order.
- Communications with our support team.
2.6 Device and usage information
- Device model, operating system and version, unique device identifiers, IP address, mobile network information, app version, and crash/error diagnostic data.
- Usage data: how you interact with the app, screens viewed, features used, and timestamps of activity, collected through analytics tools.
- Push notification tokens, used to alert you to new delivery/ride requests, order updates, and chat messages.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Register your account and verify your identity via OTP.
- Review and verify your identity documents, driver's license (where applicable), and vehicle details before approving your rider account.
- Match you with nearby delivery and ride requests based on your live location and service category.
- Calculate routes, distances, and fares, and provide live tracking to matched customers.
- Calculate, process, and reconcile your weekly earnings payouts through Paystack, including tracking any cash-collection dues owed.
- Enable in-app communication (chat) with a matched customer for the duration of an order.
- Send notifications about new requests, order updates, chat messages, and account status.
- Detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, abuse, and violations of our terms, including verifying that documents and vehicle information remain accurate over time.
- Analyze usage of the Rider App to fix bugs, improve performance, and develop new features.
- Comply with legal obligations, including tax, accounting, and regulatory record-keeping requirements applicable in Ghana.
- Respond to your support requests and communicate with you about your account.
We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
4. How We Share Your Information
- With matched customers: When you accept a request, we share your name, phone number, live location, and vehicle details with the customer for the duration of that order. We do not share your identity documents (Ghana Card, driver's license) or payout details with customers or other users — these are used solely for our internal verification and payout processes.
- Payment processing: Your payout details are shared with Paystack, our licensed third-party payment processor, to process your weekly Mobile Money or bank payouts. Paystack's own privacy policy governs its handling of this data.
- Infrastructure and service providers: We use Google Firebase (authentication, database, cloud functions, storage, analytics, crash reporting, and push notifications) and Google Maps Platform (mapping, routing, and navigation) to operate the Rider App. These providers process data on our behalf under their own data processing terms.
- Legal and safety reasons: We may disclose information if required by law, legal process, or governmental request, or where we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the safety of our users, the public, or Orvvan.
- Business transfers: If Orvvan is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this Policy or a policy at least as protective.
5. Data Retention
- Identity documents, driver's license, and vehicle photographs — retained for the duration of your active status as a rider with Deleco, and for a limited period afterward, to comply with regulatory, safety, and dispute-resolution obligations.
- Location history — retained only as long as necessary to support matching, live tracking, dispute resolution, and safety investigations, after which it is deleted or anonymized.
- Earnings and payout records — retained for accounting, tax, and dispute-resolution purposes, consistent with applicable legal requirements in Ghana.
- Chat messages — retained for the duration relevant to the order and a limited period afterward for dispute resolution, after which they may be deleted.
Where information is no longer needed, we take reasonable steps to delete or anonymize it.
6. Data Security
We implement technical and organizational measures designed to protect your information, including encrypted data transmission, access-controlled databases, and server-side validation of sensitive operations — order status changes, earnings calculations, and payouts are only ever processed through authenticated, access-controlled backend systems, never directly by the app itself.
However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, and you share information with us at your own risk.
7. Your Rights
Under Ghana's Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843), and consistent with international best practice, you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete information, including updating identity or vehicle documents.
- Request deletion of your personal information, subject to our legal and legitimate business retention needs (e.g., completed earnings records, or documents required to be retained under applicable regulation).
- Object to or restrict certain processing of your information.
- Withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent (e.g., location access), though this will prevent you from receiving or fulfilling delivery and ride requests.
- Lodge a complaint with Ghana's Data Protection Commission if you believe your rights under Act 843 have been violated.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in Section 11. We may need to verify your identity before actioning a request.
8. Location Data
Location data is essential to how the Rider App functions:
- Your location is collected only while you are online (marked available for requests) and during active deliveries or rides.
- You can go offline or disable location permissions at any time through the app or your device settings, but doing so means you will not receive delivery or ride requests until location access is restored.
- Your location while online is visible to Deleco's dispatch system for matching purposes, and to a matched customer only for the duration of their specific order.
9. Push Notifications
We use push notifications to alert you to new delivery/ride requests, order updates, chat messages, and account-related updates (such as document review status). You can disable push notifications through your device settings, but doing so may cause you to miss time-sensitive requests.
10. Children's Privacy
The Rider App is not directed to, and is not intended for use by, individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly register riders under 18. If we become aware that a registered rider is under 18, we will take steps to deactivate the account and delete associated personal information.

12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal, operational, or regulatory reasons. We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this Policy, and where changes are material, we will provide additional notice (such as an in-app notification) before the changes take effect.
